四周削り。「葛根（カッコン）」は、マメ科のつる性木本葛（カツ。和名クズ）の塊根に比定される。『本草集注』草木中品、『本草和名』草中・『医心方』に「久須乃祢」、元和本『和名抄』に「久須加豆良乃祢」とみえ、『延喜式』典薬寮に、山城・伊勢・近江・紀伊各国の年料雑薬としてみえる（４５山城年料雑薬条・５０伊勢年料雑薬条・６３近江年料雑薬条・９３紀伊年料雑薬条）。『本草集注』によると、五月五日の日中に採り、屑にするという。推古天皇十九年（六一一）五月五日、同二十年五月五日および同二十二年五月五日に薬猟の記事がみえ（『日本書紀』同日条）、和田萃は、この頃までに五月五日の薬猟が宮廷行事として確立していたのではないかという（和田「薬猟と本草集注―日本古代における道教的信仰の実態」前掲）。 |
