左右二片接続｡上端切断､下端折れ､左右両辺やや割れ｡表面に｢止｣字が二箇所あるが､右行のものは大書体で中央に記すのに対して､左行のものは小書体で右に寄せて記すという違いがある｡本木簡は国語学的に重要な意味をもち､宣命大書体から宣命小書体へ､という従来の図式に再考を促すこととなった(沖森卓也『日本語の誕生』吉川弘文館､二〇〇三年)｡また本木簡は｢セムト言ヒテ□…/拮本ト飛鳥寺｣と訓読できるが､一字一音仮名と訓字が混用された初期の史料としても貴重である｡｢桔｣は｢橘｣の俗字｡別筆で書かれた裏面は､やや大きな文字で一行書きで記されており､こちらが木簡当初の記載とみるべきかもしれない｡裏面一文字目は｢人｣､四文字目は｢説｣の可能性がある｡ |
